Isaac Backer's Service Project

  For my service project I will be helping the problem of work pollution. I plan on going out into the community or country and picking up garbage and cans. I picked this topic because it seems that wherever I go, there is some sort of trash laying around all because someone was just too lazy to throw their trash away. It gets pretty annoying after a while because there have been many times that I have been out ice fishing and people have left their garbage out on the ice. Eventually that ice is going to melt and what happens to the trash, it ends up in the water. It's especially not good for the lake that it's getting into, but the people that live around the lake and those that swim or boat don’t appreciate it one bit. That's just one of the reasons it makes me want to help clean some areas up.
      Something that I learned from doing this service project is that there's more trash out on gravel roads and around the area than I thought. I thought that people would be better at picking their stuff up and not just leaving it out for other people to deal with. After going out and collecting cans it just shocked me that so many people would throw away their cans after having to pay extra when they buy them anyway. Why not keep them and turn them in yourself to get your money back? It's such an easy thing to do and takes hardly any time. The most it might cost you is whatever it takes in gas to get to a can redemption center. Another thing that I learned is that most of the cans are out in the country and it itches or along small highways. my guess is that most people threw them out during the winter and they got covered up by snow. now after that snow has melted they have shown up in those ditches. After I done this once I may want to go back out another time. Depending on how many cans are will determine if I need to do it again. This time of year there can be a lot of cans and garbage out because people may have lost their garbage in the winter and it got covered by snow. This is why this time of year is the best time to go and pick up garbage. If the best time to make the change. This world needs more of that. From doing this activity I learned that cleaning up what others throughout not only helps the environment around us but also helps yourself out because you are able to get outside and make a small amount of money. It also doesn't take much time to go out and clean up. If you want to have even more fun with it, take a few friends out with you while to work.
